This testing is used to evaluate fibrinogen, a protein that is essential for blood clot formation.
A health practitioner may order a fibrinogen activity test when someone has unexplained or prolonged bleeding, or has a thrombosis, or has an abnormal PT and PTT test result.
The normal level of fibrinogen in the blood is between 1.5 to 3.0 grams per liter.
