Progesterone is a hormone produced mainly in the ovaries. It plays a vital role in pregnancy. It makes the uterus ready for implantation of a fertilized egg and the breasts for milk production.
This test is done to determine if a woman is ovulating, evaluate a women with repeated miscarriages (other tests are used more commonly) or determine the risk of miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy early in pregnancy
To interpret test results use the reference range in the laboratory report.
