Electrolytes are electrically charged minerals that are found in the body tissues and blood in the form of dissolved salts. The electrolyte test panel usually measures the main electrolytes in the body i.e. Sodium (Na+), Potassium (K+), Chloride (Cl-).
The electrolyte test may be included as a part of a routine health screening, to detect or to monitor the treatment of a fluid and electrolyte imbalance in the body. the electrolyte panel also helps to assess problems such as high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, and liver and kidney disease.
To interpret test results use the reference range in the laboratory report.
