Bile Salt
Bile salts are produced in the liver and they make it easier for your body to absorb and digest the fats and fat-soluble vitamins contained in your food.
Bile Pigment
Bile pigments are naturally occurring compounds that are produced in the human body. These pigments, called bilirubin and biliverdin, are intensely coloured and can be seen in the skin during jaundice.
Bile salt test measures the level of bile salts in your blood and Bile Pigment test is done to detect the presence of bile pigments in the given sample of urine and thereby rules out jaundice. Determination of bile salts, bile pigments, and urobilinogen is useful in the diagnosis of jaundice.
To interpret test results use the reference range in the laboratory report.
