Test Information
Overview

Estrogen is a group of hormones, which are primarily responsible for the development of female sex organs and sexual characteristics. There are three main forms of estrogen, known as estrone (E1),estradiol (E2) and estriol (E3).

An estrogen test measures the level of the most important estrogen hormones (estradiol, estriol, and estrone) in a blood or urine sample. Estriol (E3) levels usually are only measured during pregnancy. Estriol is produced in large amounts by the placenta, the tissue that links the fetus to the mother.

To interpret test results use the reference range in the laboratory report.
