Overview

Cholesterol is a soft, waxy fat that your body needs to function properly. However, too much cholesterol can lead to heart disease, stroke. 

LDL (bad) cholesterol is the main source of cholesterol buildup and blockage in the arteries.

LDL cholesterol test is used to measure the level of LDL cholesterol in your blood which determines the patients risk for heart diseases. This test test is usually done as part of a lipid panel.

Normal Values: 70 to 130 mg/dL (the lower the number, the better)

If you are having this test performed as part of the lipid profile, typically you will need to fast for 9-12 hours before the sample is collected; only water is permitted. Your healthcare practitioner may decide that you may be tested without fasting.
