Antiphospholipid antibodies are autoantibodies associated with venous and arterial thrombosis; thrombocytopenia, and/or recurrent pregnancy loss. They prevent the blood to flow properly resulting in blood clots causing a health risk to both the mother and the baby.
This testing may be ordered when a person has suggestive signs and symptoms of a thrombotic episode. It also may be ordered when a woman has had recurrent miscarriages and/or as a follow-up to a prolonged PTT test.
