A urine culture is a lab test to check for bacteria or other germs in a urine sample. It can be used to check for a urinary tract infection in adults and children.
Urine culture and sensitivity may be used to diagnose, and to screen for diseases or medical conditions associated with a Urinary tract infection by persons experiencing symptoms such as frequent and painful urination.

Generally none, but you may be instructed not to urinate for at least one hour before the test and/or to drink a glass of water 15-20 minutes before sample collection.
