Malaria is a serious and sometimes fatal disease caused by a parasite called Plasmodium, which is transmitted via the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. The parasites multiply in the liver, and then infect red blood cells.
People who get malaria are typically very sick with high fevers, shaking chills, and flu-like illness. The most commonly used tests to check for the malarial parasite are:
Reference Range* | Interpretation |
Malaria Parasite examination on thick Smear, blood | Absent |
Malaria Antibody-IgG, Blood | Negative |
Malaria detection by IF | Negative |
*Reference ranges are provided as general guidance only. To interpret test results use the reference range in the laboratory report.
