Adenosine deaminase (ADA) is a protein that is produced by cells throughout the body and is associated with the activation of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell that plays a role in the immune response to infections.
ADA testing may be ordered when a doctor wants to determine whether a person likely has tuberculosis, in advance of other test results, in order to initiate treatment.
To interpret test results use the reference range in the laboratory report.
